고 손석효 박사님을 추모하며
“내가 선한 싸움을 싸우고 나의 달려갈 길을 마치고 믿음을 지켰으니
이제 후로는 나를 위하여 의의 면류관이 예비되었으므로” (딤후 4:7-8)
모범적인 신앙인, 기업인, 본교 이사이셨던 손석효(Son, SukHyo) 박사님께서 2021년 5월 29일 하나님의 부르심을 받으셨습니다. 고인은크리스천 기업인으로서 실천적 신앙생활과 봉사활동을 하시면서 많은 사람들의 귀감이 되셨습니다. 사회의 그늘진 곳에서 어려움에 처한사람들에게 관심을 가지고 돌보셨습니다.
고인은 공군본부 군종감실에 근무하시면서 임동선 목사님을 만나 군복음화에 적극 헌신하셨습니다. 이 귀한 만남은 월드미션대학교와 사랑의 관계로 연결 되었습니다. 본교 기숙사 구입에 결정적인 공헌을 하셨고, 간호학과 발전기금과 여러차례 장학금을 기부하시어 장래가촉망되는 학생들을 양성하도록 협력하셨습니다. 학교 발전을 위한 관심을 하나님께서 부르실 때까지 지속해 오셨습니다. 본교는 2001년명예인문학박사 학위를 수여함으로 고인의 헌신을 치하하였습니다.
월드미션대학교는 손석효 박사님의 소천을 진심으로 애도합니다. 동시에, 사도 바울의 고백처럼 “내가 달려갈 길과 주 예수께 받은 사명”을 다 이루시고 주님의 품에 안기신 고인께 감사와 존경의 마음을 표합니다.
본교는 고인의 정신을 기리기 위해 이사회와 교수회의의 결의를 거쳐 본교 채플을 “손석효 박사 기념채플 (SukHyo Son Memorial Chapel)”로 명명하기로 했습니다. 한 사람을 높이기보다는 그 정신과 사랑을 잊지않고 그 뜻을 계승하기 위해 이렇게 결정했습니다. 학생들과 교직원들은 채플에 출입하면서 고인의 실천적 사랑과 봉사의 정신을 잊지 않을 것입니다. 특별히 소외되고 어려운 사람들에게 그리스도의 사랑을 널리 전할 것입니다.
사랑하는 남편, 존경하는 아버지와 할아버지를 떠나버리고 슬픔에 젖어 있을 유가족들을 위로합니다. 그러나, 인간적으로는 슬프지만 다시 만날 소망 가운데 큰 힘을 얻으시기 바랍니다.
월드미션대학교는 사랑으로 세상을 섬길 헌신적인 인재를 많이 길러내는 것으로 고 손석효 박사님의 사랑에 보답하겠습니다.

In memory of Dr. SukHyo Son
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” (Timothy 4:7-8)
Dr. SukHyo Son, an exemplary believer, entrepreneur, and director of our school, was called by God on May 29, 2021. As a Christian entrepreneur, Dr. Son served as a model for many people by living a practical, religious life and serving his community through volunteering and generous donations. He cared for those in need in the shadows of society.
Dr. Son and Reverend Dong Sun Lim first met while serving together in the Korean Air Force in 1954. Reverend Lim was the Chaplain of Sa-Chun Air Force Base at the time, while Dr. Son was attending his weekly services. Reverend Dong Sun Lim is the Founder of Oriental Mission Church, Founder of World Mission University, and served as the Chief of Chaplains in the Korean Air Force. They actively devoted themselves to evangelization through their shared values and beliefs in the Lord. As a result, Dr. Son developed a love and passion for World Mission University’s vision through his relationship with Rev. Dong Sun Lim.
He has made major contributions to the University dormitory, the Department of Nursing, and several scholarships to help foster promising students. He continued his interest in school development until God called him. The university honored Dr. Son’s dedication by conferring an honorary doctorate in Humanities in 2001.
World Mission University sends its deepest condolences for Dr. SukHyo Son and his family. At the same time, we express our gratitude and respect for Dr. SukHyo Son, who is now embraced by the Lord after “finishing the race and completing the task the Lord Jesus has given me”, as Apostle Paul confessed in the Bible.
In honor of Dr. Son and his legacy, World Mission University and the Board unanimously decided to name its chapel “SukHyo Son Memorial Chapel”. The University decided to do this to inherit the will without forgetting his spirit and love. As students, faculty and guests enter the SukHyo Son Memorial Chapel, they will always be reminded of the practical love and spirit of Dr. Son. We are committed to spreading the love of Christ to those who are especially left out and in need to bring life to Dr. Son’s legacy.
We are sending condolences to the bereaved families who are grieving the loss of their beloved husband, father and grandfather. Although it is humanly sad, I hope they find great strength from the hope of seeing him again.
World Mission University will spread the love of Dr. SukHyo Son by nurturing the people who are committed to devote themselves to serve the world with love – just as Dr. Son did.
